Advancing Agribusiness

Agribusiness research covers a wide range of topics from investing in rural communities to farm management and productivity. Our primary focus is understanding the key demographics, decision-making processes, business relationships, and economic situations of farmers and suppliers. 

In 2022, research economist, Joseph C. Von Nessen, Ph.D. with Darla Moore School of Business published a report on the economic impact of agribusiness for the SC Dept. of Agriculture.

Dr. Joey Von Nessen from Darla Moore School of Business conducted a study on the “Economic Returns to Investing in Rural South Carolina.” A summary of findings can be found below.

In 2019, a research team at The University of South Carolina completed an intensive evaluation of the economic impact of the equine sector on South Carolina.
